Keftedes: Greek Meatballs

Keftedes is a famous Greek appetizer, commonly served as part of a mezze platter, with some creamy tzatziki sauce and pita breads.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg ground beef

  • 250 g ground pork

  • 1 medium red onion, grated

  • 5 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 3 egg

  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

  • 2 tbsp cilantro, chopped

  • 2 tbsp fresh spearmint, chopped

  • 3-4 tbsps olive oil

  • 2 teaspoons oregano

  • 2 tsp curry powder

  • 2 tsp cumin seed, ground

  • 1 tsp coriander seed, ground

  • 1 teaspoon salt, al gusto

  • 1 teaspoon allspice berries, ground

  • juice of 1 lemon

Directions

  • Crush the garlic with the salt in a mortar and pestle.

  • Place meats in a bowl and add all the other ingredients, mixing thoroughly with your hands.

  • Roll into balls and place on parchment lined cookie tray.

  • Bake at 350 until browned and slightly crispy.

  • Serve immediately with Tzatziki as part of a mezze dinner party.
